Something turned 35 today. Sound on — this one comes with music.
Happy 35th birthday, Alina Liventsova 🎉

“34 and I'm in tune with myself. It's so comfortable to be next to myself — I'm glad to spend my life in my own company.”
A year later, everyone around you agrees: your company is the best company. At 35, the whole world is in tune with you.
Same small town. Different streets. Never met.
Selydove is the kind of mining town where everybody supposedly knows everybody. Somehow, two people grew up there and never once crossed paths.
It took 554 kilometres, the city of Kyiv and one company called Banza for them to finally meet — and discover, somewhere between a brief and a corporate party, that they were zemliaky: from the very same place.
Alina, in her own words, calls Selydove “the queen of decadence — a millennial's paradise.” We call it the place that made you.

Selydove is Ukraine. One day we'll walk those streets again. 💙💛
“Almost a year as brand manager at Banza — and my work brings me wild joy.”Alina, 2021. Officially: brand manager. Unofficially: minister of corporate parties. And the reason a certain fellow Selydove-ite now has a friend for life.

Big, grown-up and handsome. Takes the best photos of mom. She is still surprised to have a kid at all — let alone a grown-up one.

Documented addiction. Has requested rehab from draniki and a chanterelle compress for the whole woman.
Request denied: enjoy.

Comes with a cow, a dog and mushrooms for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A yellow house is not for sadness.

Mission statement: not a single tree in Kyiv left un-hugged.
Progress: impressive.
Loved, by her own estimate, only by me and 80-year-old Jewish grandmas.
An exclusive club.

Costume parties are totally my thing.
Also dancing to Meladze and flashing her gums with every smile.

Palaces, gold tableware, ten-kilo gowns, half-metre hairdos. Looks like a job for me.

I stopped fighting swimming and bought a ring. Now I'm in the middle of the lake, no effort at all. Who won now?

Funny thing about Selydove: it's small enough that everyone supposedly knows everyone — and yet we managed to grow up there without ever crossing paths. It took Kyiv, a company called Banza and a few very loud corporate parties for two kids from the same mining town to finally meet.
I'm really glad we did.
You're the rare person who can turn a corporate party into a legend, a train ride into a festival and an ordinary Tuesday into a story worth posting. You travel like you mean it, you write captions like a novelist, you love Platon like nobody else — and you're genuinely comfortable in your own company, which might be the coolest superpower of all.
So here's to 35: more cities and more sea, draniki without the guilt, a yellow house with a cow somewhere in the future, and many more reasons to dance to Meladze. And peace — for you, for Kyiv, for Selydove.
Happy birthday, zemliachka — that's “fellow townswoman”, Selydove edition. 🩵💛
